Probably needs to just adjust it, as far as the banging against the frame, the rubber guard underneath is just not position right, you adjust this by hand.

mine does the same thing, someone changed the spring on it because the little nipple on the frame was busted off. So if I put the kickstand down i have to hold it there untill I set the bike down, when I pick it up, up it goes. Kind of like an automatic kickstand. Hated it at first but now I like it, just sit and go never have to worry about driving away with it down. Thats one thing I miss about my R6 the bike would not run with the stand down and in gear. Its a nice saftey feature. Taked to one of the costem shops it the ared they said they could weld a the nipple back on for $50 and $4 for the correct spring

If I understand this right, the kickstands on a Sporty don't lock into place like they do on my bike? When I put my stand down it will lock into place until I physically unlock it with my left foot and then it swings back up on it's own. Mine has a rubber stop on it that's in the right place so it wont make a sound when it snaps back into place. I guess I learn something new once in awhile.

The fewer interlocks the better if you ask me. Just another thing to go wrong. I was kind of disappointed to see harley added an interlock to prevent the bike from starting in gear, but it's probably for the best. I never start my bike without holding the clutch in. My current bike will not start unless the bike is in neutral (should start if I have the clutch in) because of a short (or is it an open?) in the interlock system. Electrical problems have always bamboozled me for some reason. Open, short, closed, whatever, I hated electrical engineering in college.

I hate the interlocks too. If someone can't remember to either pull in the clutch or put the bike in neutral before starting, then they need riding lessons.

LOL, if'n the idjits can't remember to do one of those two things, they need to go home, lie down, and watch the boob-tube; they ain't smart enough to ride a bike, and no amount of lessons short of 40,000 volts to the family jewels will help!

Can I make a suggestion? Amy's sportster was doing the exact same thing. She'd push the kickstand down and it would pop up by itself. I took a look at it and noticed the spring was going back to the frame on the BACKSIDE of the kickstand.

I undid the spring, rolled it to the FRONT of the kickstand and it's worked fine perfectly since.

I can take a pic if I didn't describe that very well.

I don't start mine unless the clutch is in.
