Whats Up, I could use some help (advice) for my 88 softail custom. Lately I have noticed that when I back off on the throttle that there is a whine sound comming from the bottom end. It really doesn't matter which gear I am in, and it only is happening when I back out of the throttle. No vibration and it upshifts and down shifts with no problems. Primary has just been changed, nothing strange in the oil. Belt tension is right on. All feels "OK" just a whine. At cruise speed in all gears all is "OK" only when I back out of it at any speed and it is heard all the way down in all gears?? I could sure use any help or ideas that you might have. I love my ride and want to get her fixed. You take care of her and she will take care of you.

First thing I would check is your primary chain tension followed by belt tension& proper alignment.
What work in detail was just done inside your primary?

 

I don't know that any work has been done in the primary. I have not had the bike all that long. Since I have had it as far as the primary all I have done is change the oil. I have only put less than 200 miles on it since I got it. I am trying to get in touch with the guy what I got it from but he is out of state. I also support our troops. I have a son in the Air Force and I am very proud of him.-----Roger

 

Take it in to a REPUTABLE SHOP Roger, and let them have a look at it. Better SAFE than SORRY. Might be something as minor as an ADJUSTMENT!!!
