We just bought my wife a 05 springer. Its a bit differant than my bike. When you turn the ignition on hers a KEY lights up. I assume this is security? However,, the dealer did not say anything about it and we did not get a FOB.
Does anybody know how to activate it? Or determine if its actually got the system?
My 2005 has the security system. When it is set, the key symbol blinks every few seconds. My guess would be they all have the key symbol, regardless if they have the security or not.

my '08 Fat Boy has a "red key" that lights up when you turn the ignition on.
the owner's manual says it's for the security system. evidently the springer has one but it sounds like it's been disarmed. the dealer should be able to reactivate it - HOWEVER, without the fob, you won't be able to ride it. I'm sure the dealer can replace the fob - not sure what that cost would be.

My 01 Heritage does not have a KEY light.
Aviator, She said it flashes during start and also when she shuts off. She has not noticed if it flashes while riding.
But bottom line is it must have the sytem if the key lights up?

the 'book' says when the ignition is off - if the system is armed, the key will flash every 3 seconds. if disarmed and when the ignition switch is turned to on, the key will illuminate for approximately 4 seconds then turn off. if it stays lit for more than 4 seconds, the security module needs servicing.
only bikes with the security system will illuminate the key light.
mine lights up when I turn the ignition switch to on or off, regardless where the fob is. the bike won't start if the fob is too far away from the bike.
sounds like a trip back to the dealer is in order, and talk to a technician - not a saleman.
I just called the dealer and spoke w/ service. He said the only way to tell is "plug it in". Didnt really sound interested in running the VIN ,, made it sound like that wouldnt tell him.
He said it could possibly have it but it may be deactivated.
Pretty weird you would think running the vin would tell you?
I'd say NO. security systems can be a dealer installed option. maybe all of them are, I'm not sure.
I'd agree with the dealer, if it has a "key" light yet runs, sounds like it's been disarmed.
Ok,, but that makes it sound like the system is installed but its just dis-armed. He was quick to quote me a price $340.00 installed. Just trying to get a straight up answer if its already on the bike before i pay 340 to "activate" an existing system....... see what Im saying?

$340 sounds like the cost to have one installed. why don't you have an independent mechanic take a look at it??
