I've always been a fan of the older bikes. Miss my Duo-Glide but not the maint hassles. I've been tryin to make my 05 look more like vintage. Put the half moon boards and a pogo seat, front and rear crash bars. Even gone so far as to get rid of the belt final drive and put a chain on it. Had a set of dual fishtails on her which looked good but recently changed to a Thunderheader two into one. Thinkin I'm gonna lose the front fender before long go for a more classic bobber look. Never satisfied it's a perpetual work in progress.

I still have and wear my old black leather "zipper" jacket that I bought at Sears in "55" for $16.00. The red quilted lining is gone, but the leather lives on. Boy! they used great leather back then. My son borrowed it one time, and road in the rain for an hour or so. When he got home, he said, "Boy! That thing sure gets heavy when its wet".

Default Ol' skool

I picked up a good idea from reading the posts just now for an old skool look. I plan to go out and look for a leather flying cap like they used to wear when flying those old bi-planes back in WW1. Then I'm gonna get a long scarf so it will blow in the wind benind me. That will make it look like I'm goin' even faster than I am...(maybe I'll have a skull sewn on it). I'll have to get a brown jacket to replace my black one...probably go for one with patch pockets...aviator cut. One last final and killer touch will be the thigh high brown riding boots. I will be the talk of the town...no doubt in my mind.

The really cool thing about this is that I will not need to buy any expensive things for my bike..and besides...I like to shop in Army/Navy stores.

Jeez. I am so terrible with connecting names, faces and people. You would think being in sales I'd be much better at it, but... I'm not. That's why everyone is "dude" or "Man".

Thank you, thank you, thank you, IronAss!! The finishing touch...Snoopy Goggles! My Ol' Skool outfit is complete.

Wait a minute....there was a long decorative brush that the Maharaji's of ol' skool India used to use when riding elephants in ceremonial processions. I need one of those. I'll go black instead of chrome. Now that I think of it I don't think they had chrome back then... anyways....

Yeah, I'll need that brush to keep the chics from swarmin' me and my ride when i come rollin' up. Don't want anyone gettin' burned on my Rush 1.75's.

Vintage? Check my sig.

USN at the time... not a lot of coins. Traded and bought this FLH new,
equipped as shown. Added comp sprocket for "parade speeds", else as
delivered.

Note the jeans w/cuffs and engineer boots. Had a gray leather "bombers"
jacket (couldn't afford the HD stuff). No helmet in those days, just hung
some doodads on the hat.

Boiled the chain in coffee can full of oil the clean the rollers and get rid
of "high spots".

One guy had an Indian w/upswept pipes with spark plugs mounted in
them... he used them when cagers played games up close. Another
had a naval 3-inch brass shell casing as a "muffler"... It didn't.

Ours was a small group - a dozen or so loosely associated; mostly
Harleys - including a couple girls on a 125 and a 165, together with a
BSA, Triumph and a "Snortin Norton".

It was fun - and educational. Then I was gone; the old saw about
"Sailors belong on ships - and ships belong at sea." caught up with
me. School was out.

Sorry, no. Got an itch though - and looking around for something
a "refined elder gentleman" can handle.

Be careful out there.

IronBarr....Well, if you want true ol' skool you should look for a bike like the one you're sittin' on in that photo of yours.

For a new bike maybe the new fatboy low would work for you.

Whatever, thanks for your post and the cool photo.
