It seems everyone's experience differs here. Maybe some are smarter than others.

I considered taking my heel shifter off, but sometimes I am unable to upshift with the toe shifter.

I've only got 1600 miles on the bike, so maybe once it wears in a bit I'll be able to take the heel shifter off.

To me the rear shifter is just not needed. I too caught my pant leg in it as I was parking my bike in the garage, and down we went. Rear shifter now lives in a box on my workbench.

You might want to adjust your clutch on the cable for starters. If that fails adjust it on the clutch pack.

I had the heel shifter off for awhile, but depending upon what boots I was wearing, my toe would not fit under the shifter. If I adjusted it for the taller toed boot, then it was just way too tall for the other. Put the heel shifter back on, and now that I'm used to it, wouldn't have it any other way. But who gives a ****? It's personal preference. One way is no better than the other.

I love my heal shifter. Like others have said, jeans that are close to the boot are the way to go. I do remember bellbottoms and bicycle chains were not a good combination.

No problems for me. I use the toe shifter only when I don't have my HD boots on even though I like it better. I just can't stand scuff'n the toes on those $130 boots.
