A model S. Yup, it's an inside joke that only Willie G got. What a stretch for a reference.
What stretch? The S was the first HD with the peanut tank. The K model (Sporty predecessor) came out in 1952 with a large blob of a tank. The Hummer came next in 1955 with the peanut tank. The Sportster came in 1957, but still with the big tank; it finally got the peanut tank in 1958.
HD said they called this new model the "48" because 1948 was the first year for their peanut tank. Works for me. I gots the pictures.
its a marketing gimmick. when some dork asks "what kinda bike is that?" the owner will reply "harley 48" and the dork will hear "1948 harley davidson". then the dork will freak out and act like the bikes owner is the hippest thing since embroidered jeans, monk-toed shoes, and cappuccino.
Seriously, no one likes it? When I heard it had a 16" small wheel I didn't think I would, but now that I've seen the pictures, I think it looks great...sorta like a little Zero Engineering Samurai.

I love the looks. I also get a kick outta what seems to be the current trend - no clue of history. Hell, there's people who think HD had a 100 year celebration in 2003, but don't know they had a 50 year celebration in 1954.
Hmmm, I like it, but not at that price. Why not buy late model used Sporty that's rubber mounted, put the wider tripple trees on, and mount your own 16". I'm bettin' you can do it for a ton less than what they're askin'.
