Default P.O.V on P.O.V video? (GoProHD)

I've been looking into the GoPro HD (does that stand for Harley Davidson?...just joking ) and almost purchased one!

What has given me pause is after watching all the great demo's, user posted footage is that I've come to the conclusion that I'm only good for watching POV video for about 30 seconds-if that!!

I mean who wants to watch a video of 3-5 minutes of watching the road go by? As nice as the scenery is it just becomes boring!!

Used as an insert to a video story is a great idea! But can I justify over $300.00 for a camera to do just insert shots? Not sure.

One interesting aspect of the GoPro HD that does have my interest is it's ability to record still images every 2 or 5 or 30 seconds! Now that could be useful, as you might get a shot or two that's very interesting.

Any comments?

Well, for days like today, where there is 9" of snow on the ground, and months away from getting a decent ride in, a video of a previous nice ride would be fun to watch (my opinion of course). It's not like doing the actual ride, but better than just staring at the bike in the garage.

JohnTN, you are correct!! So, help me out here, I'm going to delete all the stuff about bad drivers and save that for another thread!! I messed it all up with that ending!.

I'm really curious about folks that have a GoPro (or similar) and use them along with the opinions of of those who watch these videos.

Thanks for your input, two ideas in one thread is never a good idea

I picked up one the other day and toying with the idea of getting another either for the wifes bike or for a different location on mine. It's only money right?.

Why do I want to video tape my rides. Not really sure. Guess it's like why do some people like to take pictures and others don't. Take my wife for instance. We have several cameras and travel all over the world and yet I'm the only one who takes pictures or videos. I love taking pictures of her but for some reason it's just not her thing. Kinda hurts my feelings

I love capturing and preserving a great time and memories. Besides my family, pictures and videos are my most precious possessions. Wouldn't trade them for anything.

I have the gopro hero. I use it all the time, using windows movie editor to make videos for my riding group. Add your own music/audio,mix in still images, titles, etc makes it more interesting. I have several mounts, so I have limitless options for camera angles. I use it for off-roading also. best value for your buck, since some other brands are $400+. I have found if you want to post to youtube or the like they get pissy if you add DRM music.

That I can do and consider it done,, personally I would love to have a camera to record my rides, especially the meet and greet HDF rides.

It's definitely all in the editing. No one, probably not even you, wants to watch 30 minutes straight of video from a ride uninterrupted. But mix it up with different angles, different locations, still shots, music, etc, and splice it all back together using a video editing program on your computer, and it becomes something worth watching. I have a friend who does that from his club rides, and even though I don't know any of his friends, I always enjoy watching the videos.

Windows Movie Maker, under the Programs area in XP, does a pretty good basic job of creating videos. You can import videos, still shots, graphics, music, sound, etc. Not bad for free, and easy to figure out how to use it.
