Ignore the Snell M2005 rating - it's outdated, instead look for a helmet with the Snell M2010 or EU rating. Basically the more you pay the better ventilation you get and the more accurate fit you get with some exceptions. Don't go too cheap because the really cheap helmets don't vent worth a crap although they might protect just as well and the high end Aria models are over prices for what you get. Brand and model depend on your head shape. HJC fit rounder heads well. Scorpion fit oval heads better. Other manufacturers vary the fit from model to model. Harley helmets are made, I think by HJC, you just pay a premium for the HD name on them.
Thanks for the link, I'm looking for a modular with premium sound for my geezer glide...

AC-3 true Carbon Fiber 3/4 from HJC. I absolutely love it. Light, and great protection, yet I don't feel like I'm in a can with a window in front. Cheapest price I could find anywhere was: http://www.extremesupply.com for $199. And that's with free shipping. Pay attention to the sizes though. Normally I wear a Med, but in this model, a Small. Check em out.

I just ordered Shoei RJ Platinums for the wife and I, We have been using HJC the last 4 years but they were getting a little beat up, The RJ looks like it will have a bit more
air flow around the top of your head and had firmer foam. Think they were 223 each shipped from compacc.com. The hjc's were good as well and were around 100 each for what we had i liked the carbon fiber one they had after trying on several went with the shoei this time.

+1...can't say enough about a properly fitted Arai. FYI, they have about 3 different "fits" (for various head shapes), so it's important to get someone who knows how to fit them. Price also rises with features...features usually meaning ventilation and removeable lining.

Friend and I both wear Arai's. After wearing them for over a year...both of us have said we can't find a helmet that even comes close to fit and comfort. As a side note, my friend changed out the cheekpads on her's from the original cheekpads since she felt it squeezed her cheeks too much...problem easily solved.

Of course, helmet fit is an extremely personal and individual thing...it's like a bike...you gotta "try it on" for yourself.

Default ended up with

a shoei x-11. the shape fit me a wee bit better than the arai. 5 oz lighter than the x-12. found it in a ducati dealership. took a multi-strada for a spin to test the helmet. didn't like the multi-strada a bit. the helmet was great. thanks for all the information and suggestions. now on to testing a fatboy and a roadking.

Good choice. As Monstead stated, you can change out any/all the pads for thinner/thicker ones. This helmet has incredible ventilation. So, did you get one in the Ducati "Monza Red?"

If u want a modular the only helmet is the schuberth - it's the quietest / safest / has built in sun visor / has the highest standards in safety - the quality overall hammers the competition - I spent a month checking every modular (up Market) and they are without doubt the best made ( shoei second)

I have a Shoei, but it looks like the Aria would be better at preventing fogging in the winter. I have allergies, so I am going modular next time. Have you ever tried to scratch your nose in an FF?
