In my department we're allowed to ride bikes to work but if we're in uniform we have to wear a helmet, it has to be white, and it has to be the same or similar style as the helmets worn by the motor officers, other than those rules no other issues.
take the job (but keep searching for another one) and ride in the first day and EVERY F*CKING DAY thereafter.
worst case scenario: you get fired (that's why you're still looking for the second job, dig?)
then tell them if they want you to drive a new car they better pay you real well.
if they fire you over your bike, it's discrimination and is VERY actionable.
hell, i went straight up the ladder at my company when they tried to fire me over having visible tattoos. they were forced to eat **** and i got more ink.
I hate to be the bad guy here but anyone can dictate what you bring on their property... If they don't want bikes there, not a lot you can do about it unless you can prove it's the ONLY form of transportation available to you... As for the cars being under 5 years old, I would assume they would have to have some kind of incentive program to assist in purchasing something to stick with their guidelines...
It's all a bunch of "holier than thou" BS probably written by some jerk who's never so much as touched a bike or gets a new car every six months....
Work for 100 days, get past the 90 day probation period, then start riding the bike and get them to fire you, then sue hell out of them for discrimination. i dont care if its in thier rules or not, unless they plan to buy you the car i dont see how they can require chit.
Im lucky i guess, my employer provides a spot just for Bikes, right on top a steel plate to keep the stand from sinking in the asphalt.
My last job (construction project manager for a public agency), I rode to work year round. I rode from the office to job sites, to vendors and meeting clients for lunch. I dressed in appropriate business attire with my armored hi-viz jacket and full faced helmet. No one ever complained. 4 times a year I would travel around the state for job related conferences or training, and I rode there too.
One sunny day, the new risk manager (pinhead lawyer) shows up at the job site and sees that I was riding my motorcycle. He just gave me the stink eye and never said a word. Later that day, I got the e-mail stating there will be absolutely no riding of motorcycles during working hours. I guess the ***** couldn't handle someone enjoying them self. *****'em

Follow this advice can and will get you canned and you CAN"T sue because you read the rules, and probably signed an agreement (on the application) that said you'd follow the rules.
There are classes of discrimination...marital status, sex, race, religion....Hhhmmmm...I don't remember bikes being one of them
I personally think it is bullshit however in the private employment sector a company does have the right to have that in their company policy,in fact way back when if I did not drive a GM product the parking lot for non GM vehicles was 5 blocks away from the facility rather than next to it for GM products. We (those of us who wanted to keep our job and advance) drove GM products and why not after all we did support and beleive inour own products. That was a RETRO Moment from the 70's !
