My OL is a pharmaceutical drug rep...she also rides. She is provided with a company vehicle for work, with no real stipulation that she must use it, but it's expected. Her salary/commission really hinges upon the relationships she fosters with the doctors she visits. Many of them ride. If you can get past the professional level with the docs and have a bit of a personal connection with them, you are so much better off.
Having said that, the fact that she rides a Harley is a common topic of conversation with some iof these docs and has allowed her to get her foot in the door much more quickly than competing reps. It would be difficult for her to actually use the bike for work, but in the odd case that she just had to pop into one or two offices for a quick visit, it would work wonders. Guaranteed, if the doc had time, he would be out in the parking lot with her admiring her scoot.
On another unrelated note, I have nothing but good things to say about my employer and their respect for our rides. We asked for, and received, designated parking for our scoots right outside the front door next to the handicapped parking. I was pretty impressed!!
I hate arbitrary rules. They make no sense to a most sane people.
They have a striped off area on the bottom floor of a five story garage where everyone parked their bikes... no one said anything. They we started having to fight cars that would park in that area. Talked to security about it and they just shrugged and said, "Oh well"...
So one day tired of fighting for a spot, I parked my bike by the dry storage area... not 20 feet from the elevator. The first time I parked there... the COO (chief operating officer) of the company was walking by ( I was thinking... ****... busted) but he started talking about my bike... anyway we ride the elevator up together.
A day or two later security watched me park and came running over and said you can't park there. I said Mr. Ferucci didn't seem to mind... You have any questions about it go talk to him. He bitched and complained about not getting the memo and such, but two years later I'm still parking there every day....
Check the ministry of labour. Pretty sure it would fall under discrimination or harassment. What next, they'll tell you where to live and what route to take in to you work, who to marry, and how many kids you can have....etc...
Lucky for me I can park mine inside my station. Not a great part of town so I feel better that I won t see it rolling down the road in the hands of some lowlife welfare crackhead.
So, I just got a new job and I was reading the regulations and all and I came across a little something about POV'S, first, ya have to drive a car no older then 5 years old and get this NO TWO WHEELED VEHICLES!!! now keep in mind you show up to the job and park the ride in a designated spot and leave it there for 8 hours.. damn, I guess I continue searching for another job ........
So if you have a 1963 Corvette split window coupe is MINT condition, you can't drive it to work? WHAT A BUNCH OF DICKS!!!!!!
Is your vehicle required for your job? If so then they so pay your payments, Insurance, or provide a vehicle (like many employers do) What if all you had was a bike?

Kia motors is starting up a plant near here, they have similar rules, if you drive one of their vechiles you can park in their lot (real close to the plant) anything else and you have to park in another lot about a mile away.
OP says no bikes and new vehicles and 4 pages later, we don't know any more than we did 4 pages earlier.
So OP, what is the company, why the policy on bikes and late model cars?
Tell us that it is because you need to be available to go in any weather, any where, any time and arrive 100% of the time to do whatever it is that you do. Then we will know.
