Default Red locktite

Is red locktite really necessary? I realize that for some parts it is very important that they dont come loose but isnt there a better way? Just seams a little excessive to have to pull the torch out to get some bolts loose. Maybe it is a good thing but I never had any issues with parts flying off when I didnt have red locktite on the bolts on other scoots.

Try the blue. It works pretty well and comes off a lot easier. But...it depends on what part you are talking about.

Yes, I am a big fan of red loctite. HD's will vibrate chit loose that will never come loose on a different bike so red and blus loctite are a must have on your Harley IMO.

well im bored pulling 24 hour duty so thought I would start a thread. I brought it up because I have a 2001 FXD and have never used or seen red locktite on it and never had any problems. I was helping my friend replace a rotor that had warped on his custom wheel for a 2008 street glide. I stripped about every bolt he had on his rotor with a torque wrench before I found out about heating up red locktite. Oops lol. had to use an easy out to pull the bolts out after we heated them and replace the hardware. But now I know.

Maybe whomever installed the custom wheel should be drawn and quartered for using the red in the first place.

Thats what I was thinking Not to mention my friend paid like 1,700 dollars for just the front wheel and rotors. But thats his fault.

Funny thread, I just learned an expensive lesson about using too much red loctite. A few weeks ago I decided to change my front wheel from a thin 19" to a fatter 16", lacing my original Sporty hub to a 16x3" Street Glide rim. I stripped all 5 rotor bolts because I used too much red loctite last year when I changed the disc. After breaking two back-out bits I cursed that red devil liquid and myself for all we're worth. I became a fan of Heli-Coils in the process, but now I only use blue.

There are only 3 or 4 places I would ever even consider using red loctite...blue is more than adequate for just about everything.
