I rode out there last spring and the ride in Nevada,Az & CA is just great so take some time to ride around the Country Too! As far as a brain bucket goes Nevada does require one. Also take a road map along as I wish I did and once you get out in some areas there is no cell coverage - no people - no water !
If you ever get a chance, come visit us up north. Lots of good riding just around Reno and Tahoe, and the ride across the state on Hwy. 50 is great. I do it every year. Once you get past Fallon (60 miles east of Reno), it's nothing but you, the road, the desert and the mountains. You gas up in the historic towns of Austin, Eureka and Ely, then you finish at the NV/UT border and Great Basin National Park. The Border Inn has rooms for $55 (Summer rate. Probably cheaper in the spring.)
For the same reason I didn't mention the good dirt bike riding areas we have. His original question concerned renting a bike. And his question about a helmet law led me to believe he meant a street bike and not a dirt bike. Was this not a logical assumption?
He wouldn't need a bike to reach the palamino, any cab driver would probably take him there for free. I live near the Palomino and it doesn't seem to be a favorite hangout of people interested in motorcycles. The fine scooter in his signature seems to indicate that bcox is 'into' motorcycles.
I think everything has been said, it is a great place to ride with your helmet on, if you do the Hoover damn ride, once you get to the AZ side you can take off the helmet if you wish, and ride on down to rosie's den, great inexpensive food, cold beer, power ball tickets, etc, its about 30 mile from the damn.
