I now ride an '06 Roadglide. Traded my '03 sporty 1200 in for it. Made the change for the following reasons:

a.Sportster vibrated alot at higher speeds, would make my hands go numb on long trips
b.Needed more space for stuff when touring (added hard saddlebags and had the harley synthetic luggage...not enough space though)
c.Wife needed a more comfortable seat/backrest.
d.needed more coverage from the elements. The windshield helped alot, but the hands and legs are fully exposed, sucked in really cold weather.
e.larger gas tank on RG, don't have to fill up every 120 miles
f. The sporty was Carburated - Hated having to play with the choke to warm it up
g.Radio - I had an MP3/Speaker setup on the Sporty that was quite unique, but just couldn't get as loud as the RG's speakers.

Things I miss from the sporty:
a.Being able to lean it over till the world was sideways (The RG is lowered, I'm short, 5'5")
b.Throttle response...you open the the throttle on the sporty, and you have to hold on for dear life. The RG has the stage 1 filter, touring pipes, and PCIII so its pretty good, but its still
not the sportster in terms of acceleration.
c.The sporty was carburated, the FI system is nice on the RG, but it has its own quirks that I neeeded a PCIII to fix...Damn EPA [:@]
d.The reserve tank...I liked being able to know when the bike was almost out of fuel by feeling the bike buck a bit, the RG has a dummy light, which if you're not paying attention, then you're walkin'

And there you have it, the RG wins out. If I could get a second bike, I'd prolly make it a Heritage, but thats for another thread...

2006 XL1200L

My first Harley. Wanted an introduction into Harley bikes. I figured this was the one to get. I don't think I was ready for a larger bike at the time. I wanted a bike that would handle reasonably well and still provide a fair amount of comfort on longer rides. I love the swept back bars. It lets me just kind of chill out and ride. I think I would have preferred to have the forward controls and I am actively saving to have them installed. Also, I think I was into the "naked" look of the Sporty, but now that I have bags and a screen, I really see myself leaning towards a RoadGlide for my next daily rider and perhaps a Lightning for fun (I can dream, can't I?).
