I ride everyday unless it's broke. Then I have to drive my truck. I had only a bike for many years but had to have back up for when the bike goes down. I thought about a second bike but need the truck from time to time.

Didn't own a car from 82-84 when I lived in CA. If it was raining I'd stay home or hitch a ride with my neighbor.

Did it for almost a year when I was a starving college student in the '80's. Won't do it again unless I move to a very warm climate. If ya get a cold in the winter it is nearly impossible to shake. Still rode most of the time when I got my truck on the road, but man, was it nice to take the truck when it was really cold and rainy!

I feel ya CR - I load the hell out of my little TW. It's a good commuter. I ride it to work 95% of the time. Not the same parking worries as the HD, so simple. I have 3 other bikes and only 50k on my 04 truck. I prefer 2 wheels.

It does have my Fatboy back seat as a back rest, highway pegs and reflectors.

Oh yea that's a new 21in front tire for the KTM loaded up on the rack.

My only transport was my bike for 6 years. Even today, the cage only gets started when there is ice on the road. I average 12-15K a year on my bike.

I'm glad you brought this point up....people get pretty 'free and easy' when they talk about routinely riding IN snow 'year round. What they usually mean (without directly saying) is they will ride between snow banks on predominantly clear roads. Packed snow (and sometimes even fresh snow or heavy hail you are packing down with your tires as you move) can be as slick as ice, and basically unrideable.

My biggest worry, during the winter months, is that some newbie is going to read some bullsh*t winter bike riding thread (and, suffering biking withdrawal symptoms) head out on the snowy roads....and get seriously f*cked up. 'Course, they're really going to be lucky to get a few feet before they realize how stupid and dangerous it is.

I live in an area with a population of over 300,000 people and quite a motorcycling community, and I have NEVER seen anything bigger than a dirtbike out in the snow (except for Urals with sidecar). Being a rider, I'd notice such a thing. There are a couple of 1% clubs in the area, and if anybody was gonna ride no matter what, it would be those fellas....and they're not out there ON snow/ice either.
