I'm going to be adding 2 oil coolers (sporty style) to my touring FLHTCI & would like to know if I can add more oil to the crankcase. How much can I overfill the crankcase before it becomes a problem. Each oil cooler adds about 6 ounces of oil to the system when working. So will adding 12 ounces affect the bike in any way ?
Next time tell everybody a HELLO, before dump those things on all of us. If it take more oil add more oil your fill marks (See Manual for Help). Now if I was to put an oil cooler on my bike I would use an oil cooler with the built in fan. As in traffic the fan will help with cooling the oil.
It was my first post & I'm new to the site just signed up and I will try to set up something as far as who I am and were I'm from. Also I'm not to computer knowledgeable... Will try to be a little more courtious in the future... Wait till you get to know me you'll dislike me even more !!!! LOL.
It's better to be a little low in oil then to be over full of oil. As the harley dealership have been doing they cut you short of oil as this keep you from getting blow up. To much oil will do more damage.
I looked in the workshop manual & can't find anything on oil coolers ? I also thought that not adding any wouldn't hurt, knowing adding to much could cause more problems. Thats why I'm asking the forumn. It was the Jagg website that said 6 row oil coolers add about 6 ounces to the system !!!

"TWO" oil coolers? Did I read that correctly? Could I ask why two?
If it was me I would fill the engine as normal (to the mark on the stick for either hot or cold), run the bike a minute, turn it off and then fill back to the correct mark on the stick. You won't run out of oil in your crankcase doing this. As stated above, overfilling is much worse. As long as there is some oil in the oil tank/case...there is no problem.

YEA ! I want 2 coolers to balance the look one on each of the front frame tubes. I just can't get used to the look of one on one side, to me it doesn't look balanced. Maybe it's overkill but to me it's more ****. I still may mount them inward on each crash bar in the air flow as others on the forum have done. I'm still waiting for the adaptor for the filter before the install !!!!
To answer your question, after you do the install fill the oil tank to full , and after running it for a few minutes check the oil just like you would normally and add as needed, to full, do not overfill. You may be overthinking this a bit. After start up when the lines and coolers fill you might get as low as 1/2 qt but many on here run their bikes like that all the time. And after installation when doing oil changes the cooler and lines don't really drain back to the tank, the check valve in the oil filter won't let it, I believe.
