Has anybody stayed here http://www.ironhorsenc.com I'm out of Philly Pa, was hopeing to use this for my starting point. I figuered from there I would run the parkway up to Va. Any other campgrounds on the way back that are good to stay would be helpful. Thanks
I've stayed at the Iron Horse a couple times...in their motel-like rooms once, and pitched a tent for a father/son ride 'n camp one weekend. It's a nice place in a good location...as biker oriented campgrounds go, it's kinda upscale, and the room/cabin rates reflect that. Note that it is in a dry county tho...gotta cart in any alcohol ya want...even beer...but, ya can get that as near as Bryson City.
Upscale is a good description....
That said, they have VERY affordable options.
The bunkhouse is cheaper and when we stayed, was empty, so it was as good as a private room.
They have camper slots and tent sites that are flat, groomed, and spacious.
Tent slots are right next to the brook.
The food is superb and not typical cafe grub.
Saturday night is movie night and they have a theater screen that they roll out and play cool stuff on in wicked surround sound. Every one piles up on one of the many couches (very comfy) and watches. They played a Pink Floyd concert while we were there, so it fit just fine.
Access is easy and right on the main biker tour ride, so it's not inconvenient.
I've camped there twice, and will be again in May. I love the place, totally first rate, great facilities, food, people, etc. Here's a picture of my campsite right on the brook, very nice music to fall asleep to. The showers and restaurant are right across the brook.

Try the kickstand lodge it is less than a mile (actually it is in front of Iron Horse) very reasonable they even cook meals (very cheap) sit around the campfire at night with everyone a very nice lady named Mo owns it she is great. www.kickstandlodge.com
Have stayed at the Ironhorse and loved it. Thought the food was very good for the $$$ and as stated, they have several options accomodations-wise. Yes it is more upscale. Have also heard good things about Kickstand. Have also stayed at the Phillips Motel in town which is very quaint and reasonable price-wise and also has a pretty decent restaurant next door.
