What to check
My buddy called and said his '02 Heritage f.i. sputters when he's cruising down the road. He said it idles okay. He tried changing the plugs and cleaning the AF but that didn't help. He's gonna bring it over tomorrow morning so we can try to figure it out. Any suggestions???? The bike doesn't sit much thru the winter because he rides whenever there's no snow on the road. It probably only sat for a month in January. Is it possible his injectors are clogged?

How many miles on the bike? It could be a hole in the fuel line inside the tank for the fuel pump since it is EFI. Clean out the IAC valve although this is usually for poor idling. Check the fuel filter as stated above. Make sure plug wires are good. Etc etc etc.

As a quick cheap check I'd fire it up in a dark garage. Look for any sparks along the plug wires or near the coil. Also move the wires around while your looking.
Does it happen under load (accelerating or hills) or when just cruising?
If only when under load I'd suspect fuel line, filter or possibly the pump.

Does his 02 really have EFI? If it's carb, has he been pushing in the enrichner **** after the bike warms up? That enrichener will compromise the plugs performance. If it is EFI I'd run some Seafoam thru the gas and might want to check that filter or the fuel pick up hose for a leak.
