Carrying Extra Gasoline
You do not want to fill it to the top because of expansion...esp if you're traveling to high elevations or in hot areas.
The MSR large size bottle is ~30 oz. = .23 gallons (about 1/4 gallon). On my bike, I figure 40 mpg to be safe (I almost always get more, esp when touring). That means and add'l 10 miles per container. I've carried a couple when touring, but have never needed it on a ride. I just emptied one into a friends bike this weekend because her bike was empty and we wanted to make sure she got to a fuel station with no worries.
The 30 oz MSR bottle from REI takes into account that you will not fill it to capacity...in other words, if you fill it to the top, you'll get more than the 30 oz.
There are other brands. Just found this one that's a tad less $$ http://www.campsaver.com/itemmatrix....6&MatrixType=1
seem to be too big a PITA for such an insignificant volume of fuel.. if I run out on
some boondocks road, I doubt it will be anywhere within 10 miles of a station
so I consider anything less than a gallon to be of no help at all.....

ROFL, here is a thought..one of those bottles gets you 10 miles down the road...your 20 miles from a station..you walk 10 less miles...sorry just trying to help. Id find a 1 gallon can, metal can, like the coleman fuel can and see if it fit..make sure the lid seals up good while your still home. Also, its cheap, its easy and it will expand nicely when the fuel expands from the heat.
I'm leaning more and more to just getting a new can of Home Depot paint solvent,
unloading it into an El Cheapo plastic jug, then just using the cleaned can and
a funnel.
