Default Need help assembling switch harness plug...

Hey all! Ok, I just put a set of RSD ape hangers on my XL1200N and bought a new switch/ wire harness to go along with it so I don't have any splices (I would rather have one continuous wire from the switchs to the plug).

Anyway... so I cut and pinned the ends of my wires and inserted them into the new plug housing (male side) so that it would plug right into the female side located under the backbone but there's a problem...

Now try and work with me on this one, I'll explain it as best as I can:

After inserting the wires/pins into the back of the plug housing they go through the body of it then poke out of a small faceplate that's recessed about 1/2" inside the plug. the problem is that the faceplate on the OEM harness was recessed deeper in the plug another "click" and I just can't seem to get the plate back that one more click that i need for it to plug into the OEM female side that it needs to get hooked up to.

For some reason, without the wires/pins in it, it will go back right where I need it but after I push all the wires through, it dosen't want to budge.

After about 2 hours of messing around with one of the two new switch plug housings i was able to get it to seat far enough back right where i need it. but that was after ****** f*^king it about 100 times and struggling. I still have the other one to do... is there an easier way to do this??? Is there some kind of special plug assembly tool that I need to sit that plate back far enough?

Best I can describle the plate is that its a small tan/cream colored plastic part with holes for the wire pins to stick through.

Thanks all for your help!!!

Called a socket lock. Make sure the pins are in their respective holes with the "nub" or lock tab the right side up.

My lock tabs on my pins went towards the middle of connector plug. Its kind of a pain. I found if you pull them trew with needle knows pliers, and push them back till they stop, then push your connector into the locked position.
