Thanks for all the input

Thats kind of what I thought. While I was in the Harley Dealer I found a Super Glide in the corner and just sat on for the hell of it because I wasnt looking for anything that big, and to be honest when I sat on, it felt like a totally differant bike. It felt fantastic in fact. So maybe I will have to wait a little longer save the cash and go for something bigger like that. Is there a massive differance in insurance does anyone know? The extra cost isnt that severe if I buy a used one. In the uk the 883c i was looking at new was £6500 and the 1200c is £7500. The Super Glyde Custom is £9500 Not such a massive leap, and will prob be better in the long run.

I agree with the above posts. I had a friend that started out on a 883 and within months traded it for a 1200, then a year later went with a Lowrider. If price is a consideration, then look at a used bike at a reputable dealer or in the classfieds. Good luck.

I agree...you would be happy with a Dyna whether it's a Wide Glide, Lowrider, Streetbob, etc.... I sat on a Streetbob last week with forward controls and it was SWEEEEET!!!! ~~~> and forwards are a must for those with long legs!!!!

Price is a consideration but I dont mind getting a used one or waiting an extra couple of months until I can afford to get something more suited to me, as I would be very upset with myself If I felt like I wanted to upgrade after a few months when I could've saved for that extra few months and get something thats gonna last "forever"

if it's a budget issue, then I would look at the 1200 custom. you'd spend the difference in upgrades anyway. if it's experience, and budget isn't a factor... go with something in the Dyna line. you can put forward controls on'em and they have more power to haul your big frame around.

used is always a good option. plenty of bikes out there that are practically new, with very low miles on them.

oh, and welcome to the club.

I would advise you to look at full size Harleys. You will not be happy for long with a sportster. Too small for your size.

If the budget is a problem I would look for a used full size harley in your price range. I would even suggest you look at metric bikes, god forbid, before choosing a sporster. Just my humble opinion.

I would rather wait for a harley than buy a metric and always wish I wouldnt have. just my opinion.

About the insurance. The insurance cost here in the USA are different than what they would be in the UK I'm sure. It's all based on how many miles you ride, if you use it strickly for pleasure and how you store it when not riding. You know, like a garage or some other type of storage.

There is a significant difference in insurance cost here in the Unitied States, depending on what part of the country we live in and a few other factors.

Dude, are you kidding me?

You have no business on a Sporty. Good bike but you are not going to be comfortable, unless you have figured out a way to ride with your legs folded up in some sort of really weird way. Forward controls are not going to make it any better either.

If money is an issue, I say wait and get a Bagger. (Touring bike)

Dont be in a rush to ride and settle for something that is going to be super uncomfortable.

Trust me on the Bagger tho!
