Default Advice PLease

Hi All

Im new on here and looking to buy a new Harley in the next few months, which is where you guys may be able to help me I hope.

It is going to be my first bike, I've been looking at the 883C. I have been to the HArley Dealers like 4 times now and sat on all the 883's and thats the one I feel most comfortable on. I also like the low one but one of the first mods I would do is put forward controls on so it makes sence to get the custom thats already got them on.

Now, here is the advice that I need:

I'm 6ft 6" tall
I am about 20 stone in weight (280 lbs) (Rugby player build)

I was wondering if that machine would have enough grunt to pull me and still be fun, or if I should be looking for something bigger as I dont want to out grow it in a year or so. Should I rather look at the 1200C or even look at the Dyna's.

Any advice is much appreciated, look forward to hearing your replys

Rob

I believe a Dyna Wide Glide would be much more comfortable and would have more power.

Ill bite, its my opinion that the 883 would be a waste of your time and money. You too big for that bike. You would end up spending a ton of money trying to make it comfortable. I would recommend a Dyna Wide Glide. It has the most stock leg room available IMO, But its about triple the cost of that 883. I have seen too many times someone buying an 883 and then two months down the road trading up to a big twin. Good luck. If $$$ is the ending factor, (I understand) then at a minimum get the 1200, but your going to have a hell of time making it comfortable. [sm=icon_ladiesman.gif]

I would agree go with the wideglide. nothing against the sportster but you need a little more bike. Plus the forward controls for your height.

If you go with the 883 you'll want foward controls. The 1200C Sportster has forward controls stock.

I don't think a guy your size woud be happy with the Sportster line

Wide Glide would fit nice.

Low Rider would fit also, but you'd want forwards installed.

Good Hunting!!

Nope, not the 883.

Perhaps the Sportster Custom 1200, but better yet the Street Bob with forward controls... it is the best Harley bike (in terms of performance) that I have ridden. You won't regret and my word counts.

Best regards.

The 883 will haul you around, but it will seem cramped. You may want to look at a Dyna (Bob or basic 'glide) and get fwd controls. I am only 6'2 and the mids are cramped on sportys and dynas.

dang dude, your one tall drink of water! i think ive met more tall people on this board than i have in real life. i stand 6' 6" also....but you got me beat in the weight department.
i sat on just about every bike that the dealer had in the showroom....and really none were ment for guys our size....so which ever bike you choose, set aside some extra bucks to make some adjustments. and if it were me, i would go with any of the suggestions above....just steer clear of the 883s (thats just my opinion).
....i went with the Heritage Softail!
good luck!

I'd agree with the comments above.

If you have your license and have some confidence you might ask to do a demo ride on the bikes you are considering. That will help you get a feel for how you will actually sit. There are ways to extend the controls if you find something you love and need to do it. Like buzzingstrings said just budget in some money to get the bike comfortable.
