Default South Jersey dealerships closing

I posted this over in the NY/NJ Tri-State section but thought I would get more views here. While at the Wildwood, NJ shop for a 40% off sale I heard the shop, along with their parent dealership in Millville is having the franchised pulled by the MOCO immediately. Both shops will close as of Monday. Millville has been around since 1975! WTF! So much for loyalty from the MOCO. Apparently the owners were called today and given notice by the MOCO. Salem County is closed. Not sure of Atlantic County. South Jersey will have no dealerships!

I hope Sam and his boys open up and independent shop.

Wow, That sucks!! We have a lack of dealerships here as it is. I wonder what this decision was based on? I'm not so sure about this new CEO Harley has (or what his vision for the company is).

I've wondered how much business WildWood Harley really did (outside of the 2 bikeweek events there). But I thought Millville was a long time dealer that had enough business to stay open.

What does Harley save by closing franchise dealerships? The only thing I can think of is maintaining less inventory means maybe short term they can slow production by moving bikes from closed dealerships.
Maybe demand goes up if bikes are harder to get but thats a stretch.
What am I missing?

Word late this pm is that both Wildwood and Millville will be closed while the MOCO removes its interests, - signage, displays, tools etc, then will reopen probably with a strong aftermarket company ie Drag Specialties and continue to do what they do best and have been doing for 35 years...provide qualilty service and mechanical work.
As for the MOCO,.... they've done a great job in building a huge customer base over the past 7 - 10 years (thanks to small dealerships like Millville and WWD) and now they're pulling the product support out from under US, the customer. In trying to cuts costs and save the bottom line, all they've managed to do is cut off their nose to spite their face. I'm sure I'm not the only ownwer who has no intention of travelling 80+miles to Barb's, Mill's or Mike Famous aka Notorious, to get service work done. I want someone who knows what they're doing wrenching on my bike and don't give a rats a$$ if there's a Harley Davidson sign out front. As for the MOCO, thanks for the memories.... and for Sam and the boys and all the good people with them at both locations,....you haven't seen the last of us !!!
