I'm a new rider looking to buy a 2010 Harley, actually two, one for my wife and one for me. My wife's picked out the black ice denim Dyna Street Bob for herself and I really want the Fat Boy LO for myself but I'm 6'7" and over 400 lbs. Last time a dropped 100 lbs in 6th months so weight could be fixed and I would do it for this bike (need to anyway) cuz I just love it. Does anyone think that with forward controls, a tall boy seat and 16" ape hangers I would be comfortable on this bike? I like the fact that it's dropped and I'll have a lower center of gravity. I just don't care for the Road King nearly as much as this gorgeous bike. I'm more of a long torso body type so I'm thinking the leg fit could work.
Thanks for your advice!

I'm 6'2" with a 36" inseam. I have an 09 Street Bob with HD forward controls installed. It is ok as is now. But when I get some cash, the next thing i am going to do is install as set of Kuryakin 3" extended forward controls. My seat is also not the most comfortable. So after the forwards i intend to send the seat out to have memory foam installed.
I would think forward control extenders would make any bike more comfortable for you as well as the apes you mentioned. Also, 400lbs would probably lower an already low bike a little, so may need to look at upgrading the suspension especially if the wife is going to ride with you.
At you weight I would not rule out the touring platform.... The other option would be to beef up the suspension. You threw the wife in the equation and I am assuming you would be riding 2-up. That much weight is a lot for a normal suspension set up. Like the above poster mentioned on a already lowered bike you might be grinding down some shiny stuff in the corners.
My wife's picked out the black ice denim Dyna Street Bob...
1st Mistake... Who is going to be riding this bike, you or her? You have to pick what YOU are comfortable riding.

If this is the right bike for you, then get it... You can also get a standard Fatboy. It's not as low as a Lo, but sounds like you need raised suspension, not lowered.
Whatever choice you make, make its YOUR choice. You are the one who will be responsible for handling it when your wife it sitting on the back. You are responsible for her safety, and you can only do that on a bike you are most comfotable riding.
My wife picked the Dyna for herself, I am drooling over the Fat Boy LO for myself.
We're looking to buy two bikes, guess I wasn't clear enough. Thanks for all the input so far. I'm wondering if I should just get the LO for the looks and replace the suspension.

Don't know what the diff is on the low. but on our 07 heritage, wife and I ride two up 95% of the time and have for,, now the 4 th summer.
Haven't had any "ZERO" issues with the stock shocks and its ride is still really good cept on the biggest bumps. Together we go right at 400#'s.. Shes only 115 of it..
brickghost; not to discredit you or your wife, but how many years of riding experience do you & her have? If your fairly "green" in the seat then you're probably good w/the FB, but your wife might want to consider a smaller frame. I had a female co-worker who wanted a Heritage Softail, but ended up with a Sporty 1200L because the Softail was a tad big/heavy for her smaller body (petite). Maybe go take a few for test rides (you & her) to narrow down the options...Good Luck - this is an envious question to have as we'd all like to be in a similar dilemma.
