I have been trying to get current sales numbers for Victory and Indian motorcycles to see if they are any real compitition to HD.I don't really think they are.I did read that BMW had only a two and one half percent market share in the US last year.I thought that was low.Does anyone on here think Indian has a chance of making it.They look nice, but boy what a price. Just wondering. '

Are you kidding? Indian sales are in the hundreds total for the year. BMW sells about 15,000 bikes a year in the US. Harley even with sales down will sell close to 200,000 a year in the US. Sales were about 300,000 before the recession.
Thers 4 Harley dealers in the 40 miles on my way to work. no indian dealers in the state not sure about victory i think i know were ones at dont know about bmw.
Harley usually includes market share and unit volume data for major competitors in their annual report. I don't think either Victory or Indian sell enough to move out of the clutter captured as "other."
I did notice in their latest report that HD has picked up share in both the US and Euro markets. We know that HD's numbers are down, the others makers are really way down.
I haven't read anything about Indian sales but the former stand alone Indian dealership near my house now also sells Victory, Big Dog, and Aprillia. They also have big money off in stock '09s so I don't think their doing well. But in this economy, it isn't surprising.
My closest Harley dealer sells or should I say Stocks them I don't think he has sold any yet.He has them priced at $32500 and up.The reason I was wondering was another post about 2011 HD models coming out with 103in.motors to compete with Victory. My thought was Harley could care less about Victory,or any other brand as far as that goes.We all know Harleys faults and short comings but we love them anyway. At least thats the way I feel.

The Harley dealership where you live also sells Indians? I'm really surprised the MOCO allows it.
Indians seem to me that they are always going to be a niche brand. Same way you don't see a lot of Ferrari dealerships around. Don't get me wrong Indians are gorgeous bikes, but their entry level bike off of their website, is a chief standard, from last model year from 19,999. Nothing from the '10 model year was priced less than 20K. Thats a lot of money for a bike. and thats not counting the gas you have to burn to go the three hundred or so miles (plus a border crossing, in my case) to get to a dealer. That amount of money and that level of commitment is going to appeal to a very specific group of people. Harley has a broader appeal and a larger product range. my $.02
