I am sure it is an old story but after years of riding I finally got a Harley (05 Softail) but after a few weeks of riding I was suffering big time buyers remorse - I wanted a Electra Glide Classic but jumped on the softail cause it made sense to me at the time - I figured I would get my feet wet and then take the next step up. It was keeping me up at night because I really wanted to do the long cruise and the softail was just not comfortable enough for that type of riding - Walked into the my dealer today straight to the owner and told him I was not happy and what could he do about it. One hour later we had a deal - I got the FLHTCI in Black that I wanted and worked out a nice Trade-in/Consignment deal. Don't get me wrong I took a hit in the wallet but no where near where I thought I would be. In fact if I get a few breaks selling some things on ebay I should only be out 1100 bucks for my mistake - Big dollars yes but over the life of the bike it would have turned my inside out - Picj it up Tuesday and now I won't be able to sleep for the right reasons!!!!!!!
What was it about the softail that led you to believe you can't make long rides on it? The ElectraGlide and the big fairing it comes with I'm sure makes a huge difference in ride comfort....less wind beating you up, etc.

I didn't factor in how much driving I would be doing on the interstates - I did 2 or 3 - 200 plus mile days and since I am short, old and out of shape my *** was kicked. The wind and the bumps are great for the first 100 miles but then I start to get tired. I also like all the possible foot positions on the Ultra (Not that you couldn't do that on a softail but you get the point) I should have also factored in all the 2 up riding I will be doing - My wife never complained once on the back of the softail but I know she is going to flip when she gets on the Ultra. The total look and all the extra room are all welcome and it really is the ride I wanted all along. Please don't think I don't love the softail and if there was any possible I would keep both!
Hey Kess, who's the dealer?
Phil - It's Williams HD in Lebanon, NJ - Can't speak about everyone but they sure have been great to me. By the way I did contact those people who meet you with a scooter and assist you in taking the test and weather permiting I am all set for next Friday morning!
Now the next steps are waiting for the safety class I signed up for and bugging all you big bike vets for some riding tips - I also would like to lower the Ultra an inch if possible - kess
Howdy, glad to hear that you were able to get a bike that will be more comfy for you. It's no fun going on long rides and being tired when you are done. Enjoy the ride.
