service question while on the road

I read alot of posts where people are touring or heading to a rally and something happens and then they post how the dealer got them back on the road. Do dealers fit them in and charge them more or what is the deal? I know that when you need something done at a dealer you usually end up having to make an appointment for the end of the week or even the next week. Just curious if they have some sort of arrangement when break downs occur.

I had problems in Montana last year while on a trip & the dealer in Billings worked me in. No additional charge, but I did give the service mgr & tech a nice tip for all their help.

I understand they have an unwritten rule about getting travellers taken care of and back on the road as soon as possible. I guess what really happens is up to the individual dealers.
