Don't like being around them either. Get by quick or let em go. The ones that really freak me out are the ones you can hear the tire or tires going wop wop wop.
Sucked in...I dont buy that. What I do believe is a panic stricken incorrect steering which made the bike go the wrong direction. I have never experienced suction from a semi. I have experienced instability or turbulence which I needed to counter steer to keep my path....if I had panicked I may have steered the wrong way which would feel like suction....possibly

+1
I was 1/2 mile behind when one blew. Loud explosion and lots of debris.
I am new to hd riding, about five years and probably about 30,000 miles of experience. I am not what i consider a confident and skilled rider. My friends that are in my opinion don't show proper respect for truckers on the highway. I have worked with the industry and so know that some of the drivers are not what i consider professional. One of the common things that is said after an incident on a mc is "it wasn't my fault". However, when there is an accident all parties share in the blame, if not the cost. I am fearful and respectful of trucks. My friend is not.
Draft is the reason. Ignorance is what could potentially kill them.
Especially since truckers tend to drive through anything they can't brake for, bricks, ladders, carcasses, Re-treads, etc.. After 18 wheels have their way with it, who knows what's coming out the other end. And in order to draft properly (not condoning the practice here) the closer the better, which will leave a split second to react to it!
I'll be the first to admit it seemed like a good idea when I was a newbie road rider 25 years ago. Luckily someone with more experience then me explained the pitfalls, and I quit doing it ASAP after a few times.
About a month ago I was at least 300 yards behind a semi that blew a tire and I got hit by all kinds of flying debris.
Same exact experience about a month ago as well. I smelled burning rubber and I was looking for smoke or some other visible sign to identify which truck it was coming from. Next thing was BOOM and rode through the airborne shrapnel.
