HD wants to distance themselves from the loud pipe controversy. They cannot void the entire warranty, that's a scare tactic. You can still get aftermarket pipes. If they are too loud for local ordinance you could get a ticket, but that has always been the law.
The only reason you can't get pipes for your `07 is because the aftermarket has not yet caught up and produced them with O² bungs. They cannot void your warranty because you changed the pipes.
While at Sturgis I went to the Rapid City Convention Center to the Harley âExpoâ, they had a display of all of the 07 Harleys and Buells, they also had a HUGE display of after market pipes, Screaming Eagles actually. I asked the rep about the warranty issue and the law, he looked at me as if I had two heads and just pointed the rack of exhaust. Do what you want to your bike, its yours.

This is correct. There are still plenty of options for the pre '07 bikes and Harley has some SE stuff for their new bikes. The aftermarket folks are probably working 24/7 to get caught up with all the changes and I'd bet there will be plenty of options within a few months.

HD did change the exhaust note on the new Sportsters, however it's still not anywhere close to the aftermarket stuff everyone thinks they need to have right away. The warranty thing...read the page DEDICATED to the exhaust in your owners manual. Between EPA and image, HD has taken some steps. Take the accessories page for instance. Only 2 slip on's available for Sportster, used to be 4 or 5. I've also contacted all the big names for info on engine parts and exhaust for my new 07 883R which I want to turn into a 1200 this winter. Got another response back just this morning. "We don't have anything ready for 07's untill next year" is what I'm getting from just about everyone.
