Not to defend the Syn 3,but what makes it so bad for the motor?I know that the cost is one issue and not to mention the **** you can get from a dealer from using other than HD 360 or Syn 3.
I know Amsoil has their report, but has anyone run syns(in their own use) long enough to really tell?Have you torn engines apart to compare oils?
This debate goes on and on like the Energizer battery!
Its a funny thing no one really has anything good to say about syn3. But in the poll on what oil you use in your engine more people use syn than any other lubricant. Now is that just because people are worried about there warrantys? Who knows. Just intresting to me, 161 said they use syn, and you don't hear all those people bashing it. Just curious as to if you can really tell a differance with two motors running side by side, one with mobil 1 or amsoil and the other with syn3. I have heard that people say there motor has more mechanical noise with the syn3 than with the other products
Next week, I am going to run Royal Purple Max-Cycle in all three holes. Regarding Chavez making syn3, I don't even stop at a Citgo station for a Coke. I know Americans operate them, but, just like Honda, the money goes home.
I just had a 6 speed installed in my scooter and the dealer put Syn3 in the tranny. There was a noticable ringing in 6th. Took it back and had the tranny fluid changed to 75W90.
Ringing disappeared almost immediately. Here in the South the ambient temp is a little higher so the oil abviously heats up quicker. Shifts are a little firm when the bike is cold but after a couple miles, smooth as silk. No more syn3 all the way around for me.
I was running syn 3 in all the holes, but the trans developed a leak where the shifter pokes through the primary case. My tech said use syn 3 in the primary and crankcase, but HD 360 for the transmission. Honestly though, I can't tell any difference.
I am happy with syn 3 and have run it since the first 5,000 mile service.
What does syn3 oil do to deserve such a bad reputation?
I put it in at the 1000 mile. The whole mc sounded like it was falling apart. The top end sounded like rocks in a prince albert can. the transmission got noisy and shifted funny. And this was in winter. I got hives thinking what it would be like in our 100Âş summer days.
When I took it to the dealer he said that was normal twin cam running syn3. It's a thinner oil.
Well it came out that night.
I have mobile V-Twin in the engine and primary and Mobile Synthetic 75/90 in the transmission. Everything went back to pre 1000 except for one ticking that comes and goes. It's been getting louder and louder.
It's almost loud enough they will have to address it.
Well, to all of you, I am still using syn3 in all ONE holes [sm=icon_stickpoke.gif] but I am looking into other oils that are more readily available in my area without a dealer. I still think they all work about the same.

I have read quite a few posts here regarding Syn3 making noise in their engines. I put it in at my 1k service (engine only...Primary and Tranny have Formula Plus) and haven't noticed any irregular sounds or unusual noise. I checked the dipstick after 2k and the oil still looked almost new. Checked again at 3k and only showed a slightly darker color. So far I have had good success with it. I am sure Amsoil and Mobile 1 are great brands as I run Mobile 1 in my truck but I haven't seen any definate reason to stop using Syn3 in my bike.
I just had syn3 put in all holes at my 1000 service as well as fixing it up from a small wreck. I wonder what it is going to be like. I pick it up tomarrow finally.
