If you have an FLSTF with a 200 mm rear your tire choices suck.
The D407 is a good riding tire but the wear is absolute crap.
I am coming up on my 5th rear tire with only 21k on the odometer.
There has to be a better tire out there.
I cant see how you are on your 5th tyre with only 21k ...... something cant be right ... are your pressure's right ..... do you thrash the **** off it ....
pressure is good
In fact I check it before I ride
I don't trash the bike I mean I ride hard sometimes...... But no wheel spins
Maybe I should by a case of em.
I have been seeing the same problem with my rear tire 5000 kms or 3500 miles and my rear tire was toast, will see what kind of milage the new tire gives me. But I have been thinking about going to a car tire. just not covinced enough yet to give it a try.
If I run my bike real hard I could wear a tire out every month. Or one day in a burn out pit. If I ride easy on the gas I can get 10,000 to 12,000 miles out of a tire. About four tires a year for myself.
I went to Metzler and I get way more out of a tire. I have a buddy that went to Avon on his VTX and he gets better than 8K out of that and a VTX is a heavy pig that likes to chew up tires.
Dunlops wear out very fast.
Ahh, you don't have to worry too much about metzler recalls for late model fatboys, especially the front tire. Reason being, metzler, just started making a tire to fit it ... and you can't get the stinking thing. They make a rear tire that will fit (ME 880 Marathon XXL) but its a bit off from the stock tire size (200/50ZR-17). This tire will cost you $200+ so the price gets your attention. Still anxiously awaiting for the regular ME 880's to become available. According to motorcycle superstore (the lady in the parts dept called metzler while I was on the phone) they're doing a production run and should get some like 2 days ago. But, sigh, still listed as unavailable on their site and my back tire is getting thin (again). I was using the perelli Night dragons, but those things really wear out quick and the front tire didn't wear even ... all the tread gone from right side and still a good amount left on left. Won't do anymore of those puppies. End of rant.
