Default Torque Wrench - Help me spend $$

I have been looking for a good torque wrench to use for oil, primary, transmission fluid changes. I have been to home depot, sears, pep boys, and autozone but can't find what I am looking for. Anybody have a good link for a torque wrench that would work well for working on the bike.

All the ones I have seen seem way to big.

A "good" torque wrench would be a Snap-On, Mac, or such. You can actually order from their websites if you don't have a snap on, or mac man in your area. I have a inch pound, a 3/8 foot pound, and a 1/2 inch torque wrench from Snap On and works great. Hope this helps!

Snap-on 3/8" drive, ratcheting, "clicker" type. If a Snap-on truck doesn't come around to your work neighborhood, you can go to snapon.com and pay full-blown retail, or purchase one on ebay for around 50% of new. You can then send it in to snap-on's calibration center in Reno and they will verify its calibration and issue a new certification.

snap-ons are great but expensive. if you plan on using it a lot, then i would go with a snap-on or mac, matco, proto, ect. sears has them for far less money and they get the job done just as well. then there is harbor freight where you can get them for $20 each and they even have a lifetime warranty. a couple guys i work with bought a couple from harbor frieght, brought them into work and tested the calibration and they were right on compared to the other brands until you get down to the lower 10% torque values of the wrench. not bad.

Yes, they are expensive - that is why I gave out the ebay option. I'll tell you what though - Craftsman tools have gone up in price, too. Either way, it is going to be a $100 investment. I use my torque wrench a lot, as I work on my bike, truck, etc. Everything has a correct torque value (listed in the service manual - y'all purchased the manual, right?)

HF 1/2 in. drive torque wrenches are a carbon copy of Craftsmen. It can be had on sale at HF for $9.95. Many recent MC mags have had the coupon in them. Otherwise retail is a full $19.95.

I have had mine since the eighties and make extensive use of it. When AIM had the $9.95 coupon recently, I went and got another one in case the original ever gives up.

Not possible............HF cannot sell a tool for $9.95 that Sears sells for $79-$99.

For me, I would be a bit leary about torquing a critical fastener on a $20K+ bike, or $30K+ truck, or whatever machine you value with a $10 torque wrench. However, it is cool you got your money's worth and then some from your purchase.

I used Craftsman for a couple months working at the dealership before it stopped working. Probably fine if you aren't going to use it very often. If you want a good one send me a PM, I just started a new gig.

everyone rags on harbor freight, i love the store have bought tons of tools there and would not hesitate to buy what looks to be good quality. And yes, i'm in the import business, very possible to have the same quality at a much lower price, just like TJ maxx, marshalls, ross stores etc, they go in and buy up whatever is left over, I'm in the clothing business and work with these retailers so i can say first hand, given the right circumstances, its almost identical.
