Default The Roads Less Traveled (originally Alternative to GPS)

Was going on a ride last weekend and pulled out my atlas (which has every road in the state). One of the guys with me asked where I got it.
Thought I'd share a link for anyone else that may want a similar book.

http://shop.delorme.com/OA_HTML/DELi...?section=10096

Note these are not pocket size books (height and width) but they are not real thick. It lays nicely in the bottom of my tour pack.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Harley send one each year to their H.O.G. members. I do recall seeing a few map books. The plus is that it highlights all the Harley Dealers.

All of the free state maps (and the atlas HOG sends) have interstates, state highways and some major county roads, and makor cities but leave out the small back country roads (where IMHO the best riding is) and small towns. These have every road.
Could pencil in the H-D dealers yourself.

Pretty good detail:

Map detail commonly includes:
  • ť Back roads, dirt roads and trails
  • ť Elevation contours
  • ť Remote lakes and streams
  • ť Boat Ramps
  • ť Public lands for recreation
  • ť Land use / land cover – forests, wetlands, agriculture
  • ť Trailheads
  • ť Campgrounds
  • ť Prime hunting and fishing spots
If they want to really sell maps they need to get local pubs on there, too. I'd buy one for sure then.

"...and they are free." That's funny coming from a guy with both an airplane and a helicopter. If you're flush with that kind of cash, seems logical you'd have all the Gucci toys on the bike as well.

Just came back from three deliveries on my harley with the GPS. With out the GPS it would take half hour more on that 100 mile trip and might have been a 120 mile trip my way instead of the GPS way.

Default Gps

Delorme makes several GPS receivers too in addition to their Atlases and Gazetters. Their newest one even has satellite texting ability so your NEVER out of touch, if that's what you want.

This year Harley did NOT just send out the map to the life members. Had to call to get one!
