Default K&N filter

My AN big sucker element is turning black in the front. What is the cleaning/oiling interval for K&N elements? I have around 2K miles on it, seems a little early, isn't it?

I did my dirt bikes after every ride whether it was 200 miles or 1500 miles. On the harley I usually do it every 5,000. But you could do it after every ride and it wouldn't hurt it. It's up to you.

I'm sure a lot of riders clean them when they get black.Even when they are black,it's still working.
So to answer your question with a question, every 2500-5000 miles or when it turns black?

Edit.Just found this on their website...........Most K&N Filters will normally require cleaning every 50,000 miles.

I clean mine at the end of the riding season as part of the put away routine.

+1 - people probably screw up their K&N's more by cleaning and over oiling then by not cleaning them. Regularly went 25k in really dusty conditions in my jeep. Kept a water sock over them so they wouldn't injest water on river crossings.

Bike I do it when I put her away for the season.

Regards,
Dave

If you go twenty thousand miles before cleaning your K&N filter on your Harley you're going to notice a big increase in power after you clean it. It gets dirtier than you think.

I just cleaned mine at 20,000 miles (2 years), and noticed no difference in performance.

My H-D wrench told me to clean mine every thousand miles. I asked if that was overkill because they clean the air better when a little dirty. Larger particulates can get through a K&N than a paper filter until they have collected some dust and debris.
Even the K&N people say to clean every Fifty thousand unless you travel in harsh conditions.
