My wife melted half her right boot on my mufflers . I got the engine really hot , scraped off the thick stuff . Then used a Mr Clean Magic Eraser to get the lighter stuff off . Worked like a charm .

While the pipes are hot, use the finest steel wool you can find. It comes off in seconds with no scratches.

I had the same problem with a micro fiber cloth. Easy off did nothing even though it works great on rubber. I tried the copper penny (pre 78 I believe). It worked like magic & doesn't scratch chrome.

Correction, 82 was the last year for copper pennies. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_year_...no_longer_made

I've used HAPPICH Simichrome Polish. I have recently mounted footboard extentions.

Tar remover also works well.

I've had good luck with Road Rub also. It has cleaned everytime.
