At the dealer the other day and a comment was made about sales dropping by more then 50% in August. They sold over 60 bikes in July alone and have only sold about 20 bikes the whole month of August. Is this normal for August to be a slow month for Harley's or do you think maybe the changes have everyone waiting to see what falls out regarding the 2007 model issues? I think it's a combination of both...

My dealer told me yesterday that they are selling 07 Ultras faster than the MoCo can send them. Most people don't know about all the problems and most are first time Harley buyers like myself.

Don't feel bad for the dealer. He will sell every one of them he has in stock. So it's in September. He is still seeling add on's to all those guys that bought in July.

07 cutover. Especially w/the rumors flying of something 'big', that will make people wait. While the 96 and improved gear ratios are nice, still happy w/my late June purchase of an 06.

I'm very happy with my 06 FXDI, and I got a pretty good deal on it, I call it my project bike, although very slow project bike, just can't seem to stay off it long enough to do much to it.[sm=biker.gif]

Last weekend, my dealer said it had been really slow in August...around here, it has been so miserably hot and humid and that has less people out on their bikes...it'll pick up this fall!!

Talked to a few dealers the other weekend. They indicated many 06 buyers were really upset about the 07's having a 96 inch. They insinuated the dealers knew about the 96's coming out but wouldn't tell them.

Probably they were mostly wannabe's who must have the latest and greatest.

It makes sense to me not to tell anyone about the new '07 model changes. They would have a problem selling as many '06 models if everyone knew about the 96 cube motors and six speed transmissions in advance. It seems like it would be a good business decision.
