Default Tachometer question...

I hate it that HD doesn't put a tach on anything but the Dyna Low Rider and some touring models. I have been thinking about adding one, but don't want a handlebar mounted one as it will hit the windshield bag. I decided that if I want one bad enough, the Combination Speedometer/Tachometer P/N 74676-07 will be it, even at $499 list. The only question I have, and no one at the dealer can answer, is will I still have the dual trip odometers and clock?

j2dawson,

I looked at the speedo tach combo and decided that I needed to see the tach and went with the handle bar mounted one. It is alot easer and safer to just look over the top of the handle bars to check the RPMs then looking lower to find it on top of the gas tank. Just my .02
Plus it was not that difficult of an install just 4 wires, but you may need to remove your tank to run the wires to the fuse box and groud. As they say your mileage may vary with your install.

Thanks, I will look at the bar mounted ones first and see if they make one that won't hit the windshield bag.

isn't there a H-D extension for the mount to move the bag higher to clear a tach?

I loved your reply.JP cycles makes a bracket that lifts the windshield bag a couple of inches.

I installed the handlebar mounted tach, and I made a new bracket to raise the bag. (I couldn't find a ready made one & didn't see the one in J&P till too late).
I used aluminum stock and ground and polished it and it looks great.

Man, over here in UK the combined speedometer/tachometer retails at around GBPÂŁ600 !!! I like the look of it but won't be getting one at that price.

Yes, the replacement from H-D does have the dual trip counters and all of the other warning lights too. I installed one on my 06 RK. Did I need one, I guess not but I did want one so I bought it(at a 20% discount) and installed it.
