I took my MC safety course back in the 1970's and qualify for the discount. But I also have never had a chargeable accident in 41 years of driving. But my insurance company never asked for proof for the MC safety course or my boating safety courses (3).

You guys sound lucky with all this.

My course cost me $500, and my first year of insurance was $2600. :O

I had to provide my card when I bought my insurance to get the discount. Good think I kept it!

I showed my agent my MSF card... and got a discount (the agent, took my card, and photo copied it).
I'd been riding for several years, and many tens of thousands of miles.... learned a little, and corrected a few bad habits.
Money well spent.

If a rider wants to improve their skills, and is willing to listen and learn... the class is great.
Here in NC, you could take the MSF-BRC for $165, or Riders Edge for $295

Taking the class just "for the insurance discount" might not pay off....one should inquire at thier insurance company, before taking the class... not all companies "give" discounts.

I'm very "pro-class".... but the student has to be there to LEARN....for it to be effective.

Course completion will show up on your DMV Drivers Abstract Record - I recently requested mine for the TLC and I can see my course completion from a few years back. Very easy for them to verify if you lied or not.

I just wanted to share - - some companies also offer discounts for Rider Group Associations (HOG) and if you are active or retired military. I know Dairyland Cycle Insurance offers discounts for over 40 rider groups, active/retired military and completion of the MSF course. Proof is required. They have an online quoting site: https://www.dairylandcycle.com/motorcycle-insurance/ If you have questions call their customer service center and tell them Vinnie Garth sent you. I work for the company in the cycle division.
