Default Poser Question

Still pretty new to the forum and riding in general. I have seen several threads about posers and from the way ya'll talk about them I know I don't want to be one. My question then, what make one a poser? SO, I won't ride in the rain...not because I am afraid of getting wet I just don't think my skill level is good enough to handle it after only riding for 2 months. I always wear helmet, long pants, gloves, boots etc when I ride I know I don't look "cool" when I ride but again my skill level isn't high enough to make me feel comfortable riding any other way. I get excited when I see other bikes coming towards me when I'm riding cause I get to "wave" and feel like WOW I'm an old woman (well not that old LOL) on an HD how cool is that!! So what pitfalls should I avoid in my path to not become a poser but a real rider. TIA

A poser is somebody trying to be something their not. It is not a metter of being anything specific, just being real. Your being yourself which means your NO poser.

I think people tend to become poseurs when they try too hard to be the way they think they're expected to be. This can happen with kids in grade school, a family in a subdivision, or someone on a bike. If you ride when you want, where you want, with whomever you want, and wear whatever gear you prefer, ain't nobody gonna call you a poseur. From your post, it already looks like you are doing this.

Battle Lake, MN hey? I spent a year in Pelican Rapids back in 1982 and my sister still lives over by Hawley. You live in a beautiful area!

There is no such things as poser. If you own a bike then you are a rider. If someone looks down at you cuz the way you dress or don't dress or what you ride or don't ride then they are a jerk. Some guys who ride have that attitude that if they look all tough then they are, but they are just insecure and pace labels on other riders. The hell with them

you should post nudes. That way we can tell if you are really posing or not

seriously, I wouldn't worry bout what others think. You're out there riding to your comfort level, screw everyone else as long as you feel safe riding. You ride for yourself, not for everyone else right?

however
that was taken at the end of a 500 mile ride in hollester
if you ride you are a rider posers are people that own a
harley garage ornament (sp) and have the harley decal on the rear window of their car/truck

There may be a such thing as a poseur... The guy that buys a $50,000 (or more) custom chopper from some TV bike builder and then only rides it to the local hangout to show it off... And only does that for about a month, at which time the bike is parked, never to be seen again. Before that, he didn't know what "hardtail" meant....

Someone put it very well... trying to be something you're not.
