On my "84" FXRT every third oil change I drain the oil tank, change the filter, fill the tank with oil (Mobil 1 20-50) then I have a Lockhart oil cooler on the front which I remove the outgoing oil line from then start the engine and let it idle until clean oil starts coming out. Then I shut the engine down and top up the oil tank.

There is a product called "Oil Scavenger" that allows you to remove about a quart of oil that remains in the sump. Their video looks good, I plan on buying one before my next oil change.

Pour 4 ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil in your fuel tank about every 4 tanks. Cleans the fuel system real good.

As for the oil, run some seafoam in the oil for 20 miles or so before you change the oil. It will break down the carbon deposits that are a normal result of any internal combustion engine.

oil scavenger video.. cheesey vid but gets it done.

what about a total fuel system clean, something that will clean everything. Fuel filter, injectors, etc...?

this mystery oil stuff?

Doesnt sea foam make smoke pour out the exhaust? I used sea foam on my old truck once, sucked it throught the vacuum and it produced smoke... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQP51...eature=related

We used to disconnect the return line at the tank and run the engine until clean oil came out. This product looks easier and cleaner.

If your concerned about your engine you can take a sample of the oil and send it to Blackstone.

They will do a complete analysis and provide you with a report of the findings. $25. They will send you a free sample kit.

If you scavenge correctly you don't waste any oil. The old oil is purged and you stop when fresh oil comes out.

You will need an oil filter bypass like the Rogue Scavenger Their simple to use.

Amsoil makes an engine flush. I have never used it. You need some serious miles on a bike before you use this.

I can give you one case of Marvel Mystery Oil. I Had purchased a bike(brand intentionally not disclosed) that had been sitting for a couple years and had 4 carbs. I got the thing running but the carbs were varnished somewhat. The thing ran like dog poopy. I added a couple ounces of Marvel to about 2 gallons of gas and took it out and rode it for about 25 miles. As I rode, the bike started to run better and better until it was running smoothly. I was told about this stuff by an old mechanic, that swore by it. I've been using it now for over 40 years. I use it in my diesel truck and my car and my Harley. The can will tell you how much to use for a specific amount of gas or diesel. I use synthetic oil so I don't put it in the oil. I have also used Seafoam to remove water from my boat when it flooded the sump during a storm. That stuff really removes water from your oil!

I have been using the Scavenger system from Rogue Chopper for about 4 years. On a Softail it will remove 28 to 30 Oz. of nasty oil that would otherwise be left in your engine. It made a believer out of me the first oil change.
