Default QUICK! help - no start
01 Fatboy. went to start the bike up. engine start on, depress the starter button. Big clunking sound on the left side. No engine turnover. Just that rapid click. Oil light is on, and yes oil was low. I filled back and same thing.

any ideas?

Don't really think oil level would have much to do with it. Sounds more like an electrical issue. Bad/corroded connections, at the battery, etc, or weak battery. Did you try to jump start it?

Loose connection or a dead battery.

No dead battery. connections are spotless. batttery is new in april 2010. It is sitting the battery tender now, but did not jump it, per se.

Its gotta be mechanical. What engages just as the engine turns over? I can feel it in my grind in the seat of my pants. Sounds horrific.

Clicking is usually a dead battery. Even though it's fairly new it could have a bad cell. If you have a meter do a load test after its fully charged.

Harley starters are known for bad "over run" clutches aka sprag clutches. I've replaced 3 on my 07.

Maybe check the connections at the starter solenoid, if you got juice at the battery, its not making it to the starter, sounds like. Check grounds too.
