My son is currently 7 and he has been riding with me for a couple years now. At first just around the block a couple times. Now that he is a bit older, I'll take him out at 55 MPH and up to 45 minutes or so at a time. He tells me when he climbs off that "That was the greatest ride ever"
with saddle bags my son(5) and my daughter (4) have both gotten rides, i wouldnt do so without saddle bags as there feet dont hit the pegs fully but wiht the bags the can rest thier legs on them liek a chair

With that being said, check out the child riding belt...
I had my first ride at 8 or 9. By 10 I had my first Honda Mini-Trail 50. I've not been without a bike for very long since. Get them accustomed to riding early is what I say.
Good on Ya, put here on the back and enjoy every minute of it. I've taken my neice and nephew on rides when they were 7 and 9. And that was with permission from a " motorcycles are very dangerous" thinking mom/sis in law.
