Default My twin brother is thinking about buying...

A Harley. He has not ridden regularly in 20+ years, he has had several motorcycles in the past, but he stopped riding after he had kids, except for an occassional jaunt on one of my bikes. Now his kid's are grown and he's thinking about another bike, he has no problem riding my Dyna. We had great times riding together when we were younger and I want to encourage him to take up riding again, but I also feel I have to point out a few things. I told him it's a lot different now, people in cars are more distracted and it's more dangerous than it used to be, I convinced him to take a class before he bought anything, and he agreed that was a good idea. But he's on the fence, his wife is totally against the idea. I countered with you can't be afraid to live and do what you love.
I guess my question is, should I gently nudge him with things like "remember the time we... on our bikes" I would love to have him for a riding partner again, or should I just let it takes it's course without any input?. I know whether to ride or not is a personal decision, noone can make it for you. BTW he's got his eyes set on a very sweet 2007 Road King.

My brother doesn't ride and I gave him my old Honda about a year ago. He only starts it up occasionally in his garage (I know, it's a Honda), not once taking it for a spin. I try to encourage him as well. I invite him to the occasional bike night events and show him tons of pics from all of the places I go. He's hesitant, but I know that he wants to. He's just got other priorities right now.

I know it wasn't exactly an answer, but I am trying to do something similar. If only they knew how great it is to get out there - how often I praise God when I'm on the bike.

I know, he used to love to ride, and I would love it if he decided to take it up again. My problem is the "wife" thing, I probably shouldn't push it. Most of my very large extended family is not pro motorcycle.

Ya’ll should get sequentially numbered bikes. The brother that was “out” first should get the earliest number. That would be so cool.

I would back away from this big time. ANYTHING that goes wrong with your brother regarding motorcycles will always be blamed on you...forever!

I tell people that if they do not have a burning passion to ride, they shouldn't.

Let him make his own decision with out prodding. If he pulls the trigger, just don't get matching bikes and gear.

If he really wants to ride again he will. The whole wife thing, or its dangerous thing is not going to stop him. Don't push it on your end, let him decide for himself. That being said, I believe you need to live life. You could die tomorrow slipping in the bathroom. I'm done saying someday, or eventually I'd like to do that. Take it from someone thats buried my entire family way to early, there is no someday, theres only today. Enjoy it while you can.

this is what I think you should do, stay out of it totally. Find another riding buddy, or ride alone. Let it go..
