Default 300 degree oil on new bike!!!

Put 120 miles on new 2010 FLSTC Sunday in foothills. Now has 250 total miles. HD analog Oil Temp Dipstick guage said 275 and 300 degrees at rest stops. Air temp was only 92 and I was not in stop and go traffic. Should I be concerned????? To be honest, I a little freaked at the 300 degree reading. I'm thinking of putting in a good synthetic oil right now-not waiting til 1000 miles. What do you think? Am I hurting the engine at those temps? Is synthetic oil a good idea now? How much do you think it will help. Thanks for advice.

I would verify the accuracy of the dip stick gauge first. Also new motors will run hotter until run in is complete. What's the temp. while moving?

what run in? The 500 miles is BS. The most important part of the break in is the first 20 miles or so when the rings are seated. I wouldn't worry about the oil temp. It's not that hot. With dino oil in my bike it stays around 220 or so. I usually run synthetic, but have dino in it now for the new engine. The synthetic does run a little cooler, but not much.

My first temp dipstick gave indeed 300 as average temp of the oil. But when the engine were stopped the temp remained 300. Taking the dipstick out and shake it a bit and indeed, the needle moved to every direction. Even to 50 and to 350 depending on the angle I kept it in my hand.\
Changed it for a new one (appr. 23 euroos = 30 US) and problem is solved. Temp max 220 on days with 90-95 air...Yes, in August in the Netherlands...

I was there too; at the 300 degree mark, (worried the **** out of me)but with a stage 1(PC-V from FM, Ness A/C and rineharts).

Had an Oil Bud Oil Cooler put on my 09 SG yesterday at Sturgis and now runs 215-220,
80-85, 2 up. Much better.

I've run my stock bike in all types of conditions and even in stop and go 100 degree temps and I can't ever recall it getting over 260. And at that temp the heat on my legs was almost unbearable. Can't imagine riding it at 300.

The bike never ran so hot as it did when new. After a few k I had noticibly less heat.

I started using Mobile vtwin syn in it at 5k just to provide a margin of safety against high oil temps. No significant if any effect on oil temps, just better protection.

First thing I'd do is check your gauge. My wife has the same one on her bike so it's easy for us to compare temps.
