The military is famous for fielding equipment and fixing it on the fly....seems to be the norm these days with two wars.

The 2010 EPA standard got tough and HD had to build the bike's for the EPA instead of the buying public. The 2010's are constipated low powered ovens, especially the touring. Don't look any better for the 11's either.

Fixing it on the fly at your customers expense, especially when you sell a high end recreation project. The military has deep pockets "U.S. Taxpayers" to fix on the fly and corporate lobby to sell the junk to the military and fix it on the fly.

Hd has a clientel that is aging and going through some tough economic times.

The original problem is the main problem, the HD created heat, not the Thunderheart Tuner!

I put a Tmax on my Fatty this spring.Lost the dte feature also, but don't really care.Bike runs alot cooler and better when hot in traffic. My only complaint is I can't get rid of the decel pop.I have the decel fuel cutout turned on and when its in that rpm range its fine.No exhaust leaks.Tried a few different maps also.Kinda gettin tired of messin with it.Maybe I should have had a race tuner put on it with a dyno.

95 Nostalgia,

I recently got a fw update for my ThunderMax TBW (for a 2008 FLHTCU) which re-enables the DTE function. I bit of a procedure to get it re-enabled but only takes about 20 min or so.

WoodsHog - A couple of things. You can widen the rpm band if it is popping outside the band. The other thing is ThunderMax recently came out with a fw update (in the last month) to help with decel popping as well as re-enble DTE function. The new fw ver is 1.12 and dated 07-26-10.

Hope that helps.

I'm a T-Max user and a fan, and I don't really mind that they released it without the dte feature, I just think it's BS that they don't tell the buyer first.

Like my ThunderMax TBW a lot. I run an AFR of 14.3 at low throttle, and 13.3 when opening up the throttle. Fuel economy for lazy riding, and more power when I want it. At throttle closed at idle (768 &1024 RPM) I have the AFR set to 13.3 to help reduce engine temp while idling.

Just got my DTE reset. Steps (Pull Main Fuse, temporarily plug in stock ECM, hold trip reset button while inserting the main fuse, release trip reset button, turn switch on, hit trip button till "r LO" shows in the odo window. Pull ECM Fuse, replace stock ECM with Thundermax)

My only other wish is that is supported Rear Cylinder Cut-Off at idle above a certain temperature. They say it isn't necessary, however Riding in Gatlinburg, TN and up the slow mountain roads with high engine loads with stops and starts, my engine got to the point where at idle the stock system would have shut off the rear cylinder.

i like what the thundermax auto tune did for my ride, much more enjoyable and worth every penny in my mind. DTE does nothing for me, the bike rides the same with or without it but i cant say the same for the TMAX.

the real cost payed for our military making corrections on the fly is payed in American lives not US tax dollars. i can stand behind what zippers has done with their product, i mean, its not like anyone died over it.
