Around noontime (Aug 16) exibit A punctured rear tire causing a flat, a tow and a new tube 130 miles from home. Around 9PM exibit B punctured the tread on the outside of the tire somehow missing the tube, 50 miles from home. I yanked it out with my trusty vice grips. Called friend to transport wife and follow me. This morning tire has lost no air.
Not sure if I'm just going to ride the thing and hope the tube is good and see what happens, but the wife said she ain't getting back on until it's replaced.
When the tire was flat, called the HD dealer but they said they would not plug the tire, so called indie who did not have a problem with that. 100 bucks later (Progressive paid for the tow) I was back on my way. The kicker is if I had replaced the tire as HD said, that would have been like 300 bucks down the drain.
What a day.
There is no reason to plug a tubed tire.
You can have the tire removed and inspected, if that bolt actually penetrated the tire you should have a patch put inside to cover the hole. If it broke cords in the tire then replace the tire.
43k on a tire even for a front tire, you running a car tire or something? I only get about half that.
When the front tire hit like 30K I think it stopped wearing out lol.
See a previous thread where I asked if anybody made it to 50K. There was a couple of Ultra riders that went past 50K, but most did not believe me so I posted some pictures.
Funny thing was, when I was dealing with the flat, I was at a gas station/sub shop. This guy on a softtail pulled up. We were talking and I noticed his back tire was completely bald. I mentioned it and he just laughed and shrugged his shoulders. Yeah I try to get the max out of my tires but bald tires are crazy.
