I went ahead and bought the 06 RK. I can't tell a difference in the engines and I like the 5 speed tranny better for around the town use. I have no regrets. Thanks guys!

What is the difference if I go to the 88 engine from the 96?

I am not as worried with the 5 speed tranny, I don't take road trips, 6th gear has been used twice on my bike in the last 3 years.
Any advice of any kind is appreciated!
I just went through the exact same decision process over trading my dyna for a 2001 RKC. Unfortunately the $$ numbers didnt work out for for me, but i'll be the first to say that the 88 is every bit a good as the 96 for me. The RKC i test rode (more than once and for way more than 10 minutes) had plenty of giddy up in the 88 and had no probs getting the power onto the asphalt. The only issue with the 88's is you need to keep an eye on the cam chain tensioners around the 20K mark, but aside from that the 88's were a damn fine power plant.
