Default Hematoma and learned lesson quickly

Already seeked medical advice, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has had a hematoma and how long it has taken to resolve naturally or if you've ended up needing to have it drained? If it resolved naturally, how long did it take roughly?. The doctor opted not to drain and advised best to just let resolve on its own but it will be three weeks on sunday and I still have a 1/2 a baseball sized lump on my left outside thigh. All of my bruising is now gone (frig I was bruised all the way down to the back side of my knee...eeeeek)

LESSON LEARNED at motorcycle safety course!!!

Instead of paying attention to what I was doing.....I was paying attention to the person in front of me going out of control, over the curb through the parking median and heading towards parked cars, I braked too hard and slammed to the ground on the college's honda rebel 250....on a curve none the less (yah yah I know) at 20 km per hour.....damn that bike went down faster than I could blink my eyeballs!!!

After I cussed myself out silently for doing that and picked myself up, I cursed because I tore holes in the arm of my harley coat!!! Instructer says "us harley people are a differrnt breed" seeing as I was more concerned about my coat than I was about myself lol...ah to heck with the sprained thumb, minor road rash on my forearm and a big goose egg instantly where my thigh slammed into the asphalt.

Instructor asks...you want to go to the hospital? "Heck NO I'm hoping back on that bike and finishing this course today!!!!"

At the end of the day I had the best times through all the exercises and they told me I was the best rider they've had all summer. I think that was a compliment but not quite sure considering I wiped out...lol

A little bumped and bruised up...but I got my M2!!!! Now if this darn hematoma would just go away...grrrr

A friend of mine was involved in an ATV accident and had a similar injury on her thigh. It took well over a year for it to go away, she still has a little lump in the area.

I'm assuming youre from Canada, my fiance said her instructor here in the states said if you dropped your bike in the course it was an immediate fail of the class. She may be wrong though--I know I think she is most of the time.

I always think those insrtuctors have to get a kick out of all the guys that roll in wearing their "Harley Gear" for class. I know I would.

Yes from Canada....If you dropped the bike during the actual exam exercises..it is an automatic fail.

I don't know if its different here in Canada than in the US but if you drop the bike during warm ups or while you are practising the manuvers you do not automatically fail.

Now having said that....if someone continually demonstrates that they do not have the skills required to be taking part and they just are NOT getting it and are endangering themselves and others...then they will dismiss you

They can definitely take a long time to resolve on their own. It's a very individual thing. If it were me, I'd have it aspirated (drained with a syringe) and make sure they give you an antibiotic. If it comes right back after aspiration they can place a drain in the hematoma cavity and allow it to drain naturally over a matter of days/ weeks...again patient dependent. Make sure you get an antibiotic for any intervention that involves inserting anything in you.

I'm not a doctor but am in the medical field and have seen many cavitites that require draining...this is my best advice, but check with your doctor

Hi, I had a sub dural hematoma of the brain from a motorcycle accident. The docs wanted to operate but I didn't want the surgury. I was watched very closely with Cat scans each month for 13 months. It did absolve. I would get your docs advice and think about it carefully. Hope this helps.

About the bruise, i fell off of a scaffold about 8', hit my shin on the X brace, it popped up big also, about like a half a baseball, i iced it down good,on the way home from work that evening, then filled the tub up with really hot water, soaked, iced, soaked, the next day , swelling down, way down, and the color was just a little purple. I realize it's been 3 wks, but, i'm sure with some time,it will go away. But, keep checking it for changes.

I've had them - acquired mine in police motor training. Right interior thigh above knee where handlebar dug in; took 4 months to fully resolve. Right hip, larger injury area; took about 5 months...got so used to wearing my wallet on my left side that I never went back to the other, and even looked a little out of...whack!

Head and eyes...
