I did this last year. You must consider if you are going to use it often or for other purposes. If you can't store it at your place it becomes very expensive to keep it at a storage place. I bought a beautiful diamondplate drive on bike carrier. Works real well, but I seldom use it. I wish I would have bought a utility trailer with a tall drop gate and a low bed. I could have used that for the bike and many times during the year for moving stuff, bringing stuff home from Lowe's, lending it to friends and family. Would have been cheaper too, even for a very nice one.

Depends on location. Uhaul near me only rents the motorcycle trailers for the day and it must be returned to the same location.

Where are you going to ride it once you get there ? are you going to just abandone the kid and take off with the wife ? or leave both and take off by yourself ? either way, there's no reason you can't ride it where your going, unless your swinging through the artic ocean on your way some where .
Sigh. It must be lonely up on that pedestal of being a hardcore badass who rides cross country while his wife and kids follow in the minivan.

I plan on a Kendon myself. Borrowed a friends for my vacation back home to RI for a week. Looked into the utility trailers for MUCH less, but, the Kendon is lighter and easier to stow away.

Why did I trailer? Because my dog won't stay still on the bike. I mean, I guess I could have tied her to the bike and if she fell off, just let her drag along side. Maybe she'd learn to run faster. OH WAIT, I could have driven her out there, left her with the fam, drove back, got the bike, rode back, spent a week, rode home, got the car, drove back to RI, picked up the dog etc. Oo, I could have boarded her because you know, it's cheap, I mean, whats a couple hundred bucks so I can be hardcore.

I never saw mention of what vehicle you'd be towing with. If you have a truck, load it in the back. I just did the wife, kid road trip thing cross country with the bike in the back. I was paranoid the whole time, but I think the truck actually handled better!

...I'm suprised this jackass mentioned a ride along vehicle. Surely someone as hardcore as him could fit his family and their belongings in a finely packed bedroll. Jack@ss.
