I was changing the fluids on my bike tonight. It was supposed come down on the jack, touch the floor and lean over on the stand. Well, it leaned back toward the jack stand and put a little "character mark" on the tank. Small but noticeable.
I bought a bike with a dent in the tank and even though I never had anyone else comment on it, it was the only thing I could see when riding! Had to get it fixed ASAP.
Bought a new Lowrider about 10 years ago--1 week old,not even a hundred miles. Was at a local bike night & my key & fob fell outta my shirt pocket & hit the rear of the tank. Put a little dot in the black paint the size of the period at the end of this sentence. All I could see was that dot, even on a dark, country road. First one's always the hardest.
I would get over it faster if I couldn't see it every time I get on the bike. I backed into my work bench and put a little character mark on the tour pack. I can't see that so it doesn't bother me as much.
It's easy to say I bought it to ride, not to look at but I really like looking at it. It's mine and I've made it different from others. Guess now it's even more different.
Over the winter when I was installing the new pipes on my XL50 the wrench slipped off the bolt and hit the oil tank cover right on the silver old school HD logo, it's are of the XL50 package and made a nice little nick. I used a silver touch up paint pen and no one can really see it, but months later it still bothers me when i see it.
I have a friend who just covers his nicks with one of those bullet hole decals. He has around a dozen on his bike now and I have to say...it looks damn cool.
