Stock carbs usually need a little tweaking. There are some good tips om modifying your stock carb at www.nightrider.com. If you want to go after-market carb, Mikuni makes an excellent one.
When I married my SECOND wife, she had at least three carbs in her trunk. Her MECHANIC insisted she needed a new one every year or so. Personally, I have NEVER seen the need to replace a carb! They can be cleaned, tweeked, and rebuilt. Never had one needing to be replaced!!! If you can't make the stock carb work, then you most likely ain't going to be able to make a replacement one work either. Like I told my second wife - find a REAL mechanic. Do not just replace the carb. (Now if you are looking for performance improvements, and you think an after market carb may be the ticket - go for it, but it will need some tweeking too!!!
